This policy complies with the statutory requirement laid out in the SEND Code of Practice:

0 to 25(July 2014). Further legislation has also been taken into account in the formulation of this policy this includes: Children and Families Act 2014 and The Equality Act 2010.

Introduction

At Walton Peak Flying High Primary and Nursery Academy our guiding principle is one of inclusion. We seek to identify, break down and remove barriers to learning to ensure that every child takes an active role in our school community.

The Special Educational Needs (SEND) Code of Practice (DfE, July 2014) states that;

A child or young person has Special Educational Needs (SEN) if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her.

Special educational provision means for children of two or over, educational provision which is additional to, or otherwise different from, the educational provision made generally for children of their age in schools maintained by the LEA, other than special schools in the area.

This document provides a framework for the identification of and provision for children with Special Educational Needs at Walton Peak Flying High Primary and Nursery Academy. It is written for the benefit of all members of the school community, to ensure that all are aware of the principles underlying identification and provision and committed to the agreed strategies. Co-production meetings with parents/carers and other stakeholders were offered as the process of development for this policy.
